Writer sign ups are now closed and we have 20 people writing something for this which is awesome. Thank you all so much. Artist sign ups go up next in a couple of months time, the art minimums have been finalised and will be added back on shortly and there's the monthly check ins which start in May. I've updated the table with all of confirmed sign ups and if anything needs to be amended let me know in comments on that post, they're set to screened.

Hi everyone :D

Just a quick reminder of sorts that sign ups are closing later tonight and I'll be updating the confirmed sign ups post tomorrow with all of the more recent sign ups, I've been using the handy spreadsheet that MS provides to put that little table together, and please comment there if there's a goof or you want to amend something (all are screened) :) at the moment there are 19 people signed up to write a fic and that is bloody awesome especially for the first year of the challenge.

Just a few things.

I’ve updated the FAQ and Rules post, however, the art minimums will be finalised in the next day or two (I’m on days off until the weekend) and I’m pretty much checking ours against similar challenges and your feedback here and on the original planning post.

Emails. I have a couple of people that I still owe a reply to and I’m on to that task shortly.

Thanks to [personal profile] goddess47 we now have a handy copy/paste promo. I’ll be posting a promo to some communities while I’m on days off and by all means use this to do your own promotion elsewhere.

I’ve added a confirmed sign up post, this is in case MS aren’t emailing a copy of your answers to you after you’ve filled it in. Comments on the post are all screened.

Discussion posts, it would be good to have maybe one more person to help with those as they are scheduled for third weekends and are optional but are also good for building community etc and also means that there's more than one person posting to the comm. Here. I’ll grant posting access.

Contact. If you need to get hold of me and it’s been more than a couple of days then use any of these options here. (Mod is one person with a demanding full time job and is doing this in their spare time.)

I'm just off a three day stint of 12 hours shifts, so a couple of quick notes before I go to bed.

1. I'll be replying to all comments and emails tomorrow. I have seen them, just haven't had time to reply to you all.
1a. My time zone is GMT Edinburgh (soon to be BST/GMT+1 Edinburgh) so it may take me a wee while to get back to you anyway, if I'm longer than say two to three days then give me a prod.

2. I'll also be posting an updated FAQ and rules to incorporate a few things I overlooked initially when I was putting it together. The feedback from you has been so useful in updating it.

3. There'll be a post going up shortly with a table detailing sign ups (username, fandom/fandoms, art option - none of the other sections of the form). Hopefully it'll be handy for reference etc and comments will be screened on that one.

4. Layout. I recently changed it to something that I hope is a bit more mobile friendly for those who maybe read DW on a phone or tablet. Hadn't realised that the original layout wasn't good for small screens.

After that slight delay, writer sign ups are now live and will be open until the 11th of April at 11:59PM (GMT)

The form is here and should take around five minutes to fill in, it also works on mobile too. If anyone has any issues with the form, let me know and I'll add a handy copy/paste textbox to this post.

A few people indicated that having check in and discussion posts would be useful and also help to build community in general. What I'm proposing is that if one or two people (or more) would like to help out with those posts then that would be great.

In theory, the posts should take maybe half an hour or so to put together and then the posts go up at least once a month.

For an example: a check in post could go up in the first week of a month and a discussion post could go up in the third week of the month or whatever works for you and your own commitments elsewhere.

If you'd like to help out with either of these then let me know and I'll arrange posting access. Also makes sense to have more than one person posting to a community.

The start of writer sign ups is delayed until tomorrow morning (GMT/my timezone). There's an issue with the form I'm using making all answers/responses anonymous so I'm currently tweaking the settings of it to make sure that I can get around the anonymising bug. If not, it'll be an old fashioned copy/past text box.

These are the main sites that I use when I can’t be bothered to get my DVDs out to check something and as it is a huge fandom there is likely more than I’ve got here and I will add those to the list.

Stargate Handbook has a list of planets visited from most episodes of SG-1 and SGA, although the project seems to have been abandoned, there is enough to use for references.

Gateworld an obvious inclusion but still very active and includes pretty much everything Gate related.

Stargate Omnipedia a comprehensive fandom wiki hosted on/by Gateworld.

FAQ

1. [community profile] opentheiris is a Stargate big bang open to all sources of Stargate from the original movie, SG1, Ark Of Truth, Continuum, Atlantis, Universe, and Infinity.

2. The minimum word count is:
5000 words and by all means write more than that!

3. What is the minimum word count to receive art?
Your fic has to be at least 75% completed, which is around 3700 words.

4. Can I opt out of receiving art?
Yes. This is actually one of the questions on the writer sign up form.

5. The minimums for art are any of the options on the list and it is by no means exhaustive are: wallpapers, book covers, banners, social media header/cover, GIF sets, pic spams, 10 icons (minimum), a seven track fanmix with a cover and tracklist (optional download), 45 seconds of a fanvid (uploaded to Vimeo/YouTube etc). This isn’t an exhaustive list in anyway and there are lots of other types of art like drawings etc that can also be used for this, basically, if it’s art to you, it can be used.

6. Can I write more than one fic?
Absolutely!

7. Can I use a WIP?
Absolutely! WIPs are welcome, as long they haven’t been posted anywhere already.

8. Can I write a crossover?
Yes and crossovers with other fandoms are also allowed.

9. Can I have an extension?
Of course but please ask the mods at least two weeks before your chosen posting date and also speak to your artist about it too, if you are working with one.

10. Can I drop out?
If you absolutely cannot complete your fic or art by the 31st October, final day for posting.

11. Why is there an amnesty?
The amnesty posting is for any writer or artist who may have missed their initial posting date.

12. Do I have to participate on the check in posts?
Yes. This is so that mods know who is still around and working on something for this challenge.

13. When will the check ins be posted?
These will be posted during the first weekend each month.

14. Do I have to participate on the discussion posts?
No. These are optional and aimed towards generating discussion within the community away from the various mod posts and check ins.

15. When will the discussions be posted?
These will be posted during the third weekend each month.

As a reminder the schedule currently looks like this:

Welcome to [community profile] opentheiris the home for the 2021 Stargate Big Bang which will be starting very soon. I'll be adding the faq, sign ups and a few other relevant posts over the next week or so and of course the schedule once I've finalised all of the dates.

A collection has already been set up on AO3, also Open The Iris and the various sections of the profile page will be updated at the same time as the community.

Tags are currently set to be created by admin with an option for members to add tags to post (I hope that setting actually works) and the tags already there are ao3 collection, artist sign ups, beta, cheerleader, contact, faq, rules, sign ups, writer sign ups, ~mod post if I've missed any tags off that are relevant let me know and yes I'll add fandom, character and rating tags closer to the posting period.

I'm likely to tweak the layout a little too while I'm getting everything organised.
