25th anniversary event

With this year been the 25th anniversary/birthday of Children Of The Gods US/Canada premiere, I thought we could do a little event to celebrate it and the minimums are low for both fic and art. I’ll be adding a subcollection to AO3 for this challenge.

Challenge: Create something that incorporates any member of the various SG teams reflecting on their first time going through the gate, hearing about the existence of the Stargate program, or reminiscing about something that happened off world or on Earth.

• No sign up is required

• All of the shows, ships, and teams can be used, so can crossovers between any of the shows.

• The minimum word count is 750 words with no maximum.

• The minimums for art are any of the options on the list and it is by no means exhaustive are: wallpapers, book covers, banners, social media header/cover, GIF sets, pic spams, 10 icons (minimum), a four track fanmix with a cover and tracklist (optional download), 25 seconds of a fanvid (uploaded to Vimeo/YouTube etc). This isn’t an exhaustive list in anyway and there are lots of other types of art like drawings etc that can also be used for this, basically, if it’s art to you, it can be used.

Creating period is from 28th February 2022 to 24th July 2022
Posting Period is on 25th July

There's several things to cover in this post: writer summaries for artists, claims/matching, beta/cheerleader, check-in, posting. I am way behind (more than I was before) in replying to comments and that is down to some RL things that badly derailed me over the last couple of months thankfully it seems to be resolving now, so I can get to those.
*If anything looks wonky in anyway, let me know and I'll try to clarify :)

Summaries for artists:
1. Writers who would like art for their fic, email a short summary to l1lly_c@zoho.com by next Friday (I'll accept late submissions that come in over that weekend.)

1a. Writers who have their own artists or who chose not to have art you do not need to do anything.

1b. Writers who were undecided about art at sign ups have until next Friday to let me know if they would like art or not.

1c. Artists, we have three, so there may be more than one fic to create something for. I think have a little availability to do some art too if needed.

Claims/Matching:
2. The post with summaries for art will go up late Sunday 15th or sometime on Monday 16th. I can do this part anonymously or keep names on, let me know which is better for you.

2a. Artists - choose what you would like to make art for.

2b. I'll email writers and artists when claims/matches are made.

Beta/Cheerleader
4. Does anyone need me to make a "I need a beta" post at all?

Check-in:
5. The next check in post towards the end of the month will be mandatory as it is will be the last one before the posting starts.

Posting and Amnesty:
6. Posting starts on 3rd of September and ends on 31st of October.

6a. Rather than choosing a date, post your fic and art when you are ready.

6b. For anyone posting on AO3 there is a collection OpenTheIris (link in side bar.) I can put together a rough guide if needed but I think most if not all are familiar with AO3's collections by now.

6c. Post to the comm with a link to your fic with the usual headers and any warnings.

7. Amnesty starts on the 1st of November and runs until 1st of January and is for anyone who needs it once the initial posting phase is over.

FAQ

1. [community profile] opentheiris is a Stargate big bang open to all sources of Stargate from the original movie, SG1, Ark Of Truth, Continuum, Atlantis, Universe, and Infinity.

2. The minimum word count is:
5000 words and by all means write more than that!

3. What is the minimum word count to receive art?
Your fic has to be at least 75% completed, which is around 3700 words.

4. Can I opt out of receiving art?
Yes. This is actually one of the questions on the writer sign up form.

Of course but please ask the mods at least two weeks before your chosen posting date and also speak to your artist about it too, if you are working with one.

10. Can I drop out?
If you absolutely cannot complete your fic or art by the 31st October, final day for posting.

11. Why is there an amnesty?
The amnesty posting is for any writer or artist who may have missed their initial posting date.

12. Do I have to participate on the check in posts?
Yes. This is so that mods know who is still around and working on something for this challenge.

13. When will the check ins be posted?
These will be posted during the first weekend each month.

14. Do I have to participate on the discussion posts?
No. These are optional and aimed towards generating discussion within the community away from the various mod posts and check ins.

15. When will the discussions be posted?
These will be posted during the third weekend each month.

As a reminder the schedule currently looks like this:
• Writer sign ups are open from 15th March to 11th April
• Artists sign ups are open from 11th June to 11th July
• Posting is from 3rd September to 31st October
• Amnesty is from 1st November to 1st January
However, I may bring the artist sign up dates forward if we have enough people interested in making art for our writers.
